Background information

The first Food Fair was arranged in 1991. Then the Food Fair was the conclusion of the 2-year project Han-made Food. Arrangers are municipality of Kauhajoki and the Kvarken Council. Participants in the project are from Finland: Kauhajoki, Kaustby, Kortesjärvi, Malax, Oravais, and from Sweden: Vullmark, Sorsele, Hjöggböle, Fredrika

  


Idea of activities

The intention is to promote the marketing of small enterprises in the food branch in the municipality, in the province and in the whole country and to support marketing of pure food produced in the countryside. Another intention is to raise the degree of working up of the food production in southern Ostrobothnia.

Exhibitors

Appr. 70% of the exhibitors annually have been producers or processing enterprises in the food branch, 15% have represented machines, equipment and services in the food branch and 15% have been handicraftsmen.

Exhibitors come to Kauhajoki from all around Finland, from the north to south, but most of them come from a region within a distance of 200 km.

Special characteristics

The country-house Hämes-Havunen with buildings all around the courtyards was build 19th century and has fascinated the exhibitors as well as the visitors. It is a splendid place for a fair with its idyllic surroundings.

During the last 11 years, the food fair in Kauhajoki has reached a considerable position as an event for promoting the marketing of small food enterprises in Finland

Contributory causes of the great popularity are the unique atmosphere and large assortment of products from the province and all around the country. Cooking, health, domestic products and food prosessing are dealt with in different ways at the Fair every year.
